Agricultural flood irrigation is the common method of watering crops in Central Arizona.  This practice is outdated and extremely wasteful.
The Southwest is in the midst of the worst drought on record.  We cant afford to squander what little water we do receive.
Our reservoirs are dangerously below capacity.  The water level of Lake Mead (above) is close to dropping below the drinking water intakes that serve Las Vegas.
Farmers can increase their crop yields, improve the quality of their produce and save incredible amounts of water by switching to drip irrigation methods.

Residents of neighborhoods that are still watered by flood irrigation, can do their part by bringing back the native plant life to their yard.  this is call Xeriscaping.  By removing thirsty grass and replacing it with native desert plants, not only can you cultivate the aesthetic that draws many of us to the desert, but also help to protect our long term ability to survive here.
